A mooted sit-in protest by Cameron Highlands residents at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya has been aborted after Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob intervened in the matter.

adnan the manIn a statement today, Cameron Highlands PSM secretary Suresh Kumar said Adnan (left) has agreed to meet with the locals to look into several issues on land and agriculture matters.

“This is a small victory for the people of Cameron Highlands as requests to meet the Pahang menteri besar for the past two years have been ignored,” he said.

Local residents are upset over cases where the government had rejected application for temporary occupation licences (TOL) for farmers who have worked the land for several decades.

They are also demanding a better solution to the relocation of stalls at Kea Farm to make way for development.

“The people’s intention to camp out in Putrajaya has finally prompted the Pahang menteri besar to engage the rakyat to solve their problems,” declared Suresh.

Instead of descending on Putrajaya, the group, led by PSM, will meet with Adnan at Wisma Sri Pahang tomorrow to hammer out a solution to these problems.
