ALLOW PSM TO CONTEST UNDER THEIR OWN BANNER

JERIT supports Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s aspiration to contest in the 13th General Election under their own logo in the 4 areas that they previously contested in GE 12- 2008.  We have taken this stand as the Freedom of association is a basic right secured under the Federal Constitution of Malaysia. PSM managed to get it's party registered in 2008 and has been promoting and using it's clenched fist logo even before the registration itself.

Thus, in the spirit of change and also as PSM has credible, principled and candidates that have served their constituency for more than 10 years, Pakatan Rakyat should  give way to PSM to contest one to one in Kota Damansara, Sungai Siput , Semenyih and Jelapang.

Why JERIT as a people’s movement support PSM’s candidates Dr. Jeyakumar, Sarasvathy, Arul and Dr. Nasir.  Well , we think PSM’s selection criteria for candidates to contest election ensures they serve the constituents, corruption free and have the Rakyat’s interest as a priority.

PSM candidates in the 4 areas of Sungai Siput, Jelapang, Kota Damansara and Semenyih have an extraordinary track record in fighting for the rights of the poor and oppressed and always at the forefront in people’s issues locally and nationally.  Workers issue from wage, discrimination at work place, EPF, SOCSO, unlaw full termination and many more has been the core activism work of PSM candidates even before PSM was formed. PSM leaders has been in the front line on urban pioneers issues, housing and land issues, farmers and many more. They will be with the people in any struggle for justice.   Thus we think these 4 candidates fit the bill to become lawmakers and people’s representatives in Parliament and State Assembly .
PR's arguement that PSM's logo is sensitive and not popular ,  cannot be accepted as in Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat  KL112 , the fist logo was the most popular and ABU and many other organisations use the fist logo to show people's struggle. Even JERIT's logo is a fist with chains , to represent the people's struggle breaking the chains of oppression. We never had problems working with any community , from the rural to urban as normal people relate the logo to fighting for justice. Thus saying that the fist logo will scare the people , aggressive and so on is an unacceptable arguement. And for a party like PSM who does work in their constituency, their logo is popular enough as the party and the candidates are always serving their constituents and also many other areas.

JERIT sincerely hopes that the seat negotiations between Pakatan Rakyat and PSM will be determined by the work and track record of these individuals Dr.Nasir (Kota Damansara), Dr.Jeyakumar (Sungai Siput), Saraswathy (Jelapang) and Arutchelvan (Semenyih). We also hope that in the spirit of democracy and comradeship Pakatan Rakyat will respect PSM’s right as a registered party to stand under their own banner . It is the duty and responsibility of Pakatan Rakyat as the government in waiting to prove from the start that they believe in democracy and give space to activist and people’s leaders to be part of the electoral process by having mutual respect for their allies.
