JERIT SUPPORTS  ARUL’s CANDIDACY in SEMENYIH :

URGES CIVIL SOCIETY TO SHOW SUPPORT ON NOMINATION DAY

Dear comrades and NGO friends,

As all of you are well aware, ARUL , the human rights, grass root activist and the Secretary General of PSM have been denied the chance to contest in Semenyih in straight fight  by PKR despite initial assurances that they will allow him to do so if he agrees to contest using the PKR banner. Thus, PSM in their press conference on 16/4/2013, agreed to contest under the PKR logo this time, to abide by the aspiration of the Rakyat for a straight fight in all areas. However, now a new reason is given for denying ARUL the seat that is, in Semenyih only a Malay candidate is a winnable candidate. Since when PR started seeing race as criteria for a candidate we are not sure.

ARUL, is not a normal politician. He is an activist first, a politician second.  ARUL for more than 20 years has been active in grass root activism, human rights work and also in economic social struggles with poor and oppressed. He is also the founder member of JERIT and Gabungan Mansuhkan ISA.

With ARUL’s track record in Semenyih where prior to contesting in 2008, he was doing work in Semenyih and after  losing in 2008, he continued his service in Semenyih  with 2 service centres , we don’t see anyone more deserving to contest on behalf of the Rakyat in Semenyih other than ARUL.

The candidate offered by PKR is a parachute candidate who is seen in Semenyih only for the past 2 weeks.

Thus, we feel that as human rights activists and civil society members we need to show support for ARUL. JERIT urges friends and comrades to come to Kajang on nomination day to show your support for ARUL’s candidacy.

Details of nomination programme is as below :

Salam perjuangan
